When I diagnosed their two-year-old child with refractive esotropia, the mother understood glasses were critical to prevent permanent vision damage. But the heavy prescription lenses constantly slid down his tiny nose bridge, leaving painful red marks and prompting him to pull them off repeatedly. Finding the right size and frame proved equally challenging.
After exhausting every conventional solution—silicone grips, adjustable nose pads, elastic bands—nothing worked. Optical shops offered sympathy but no answers, and each day without glasses risked the child's brain learning to ignore one eye. Every morning became a tearful battle.
Late one night, inspiration struck. She modified the glasses by drilling small holes in the temple tips and threading soft cotton cord through them. She also created a custom cloth nose support—a small cushion covered in breathable fabric that cradled his nose bridge like a gentle hammock, distributing the weight while threads tied at the back secured everything.
To her relief, her child wore the glasses all day without complaint. Three months later, I confirmed his eye was responding beautifully to treatment. The pride in her smile was unmistakable—a testament of a mother's determination for the love of childs sight!
