Dr. Raba Thapa MD, PhD is a Professor of Ophthalmology at National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), and a senior consultant vitreo-retinal surgeon at Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology (TIO), Kathmandu, Nepal.

Dr. Raba Thapa MD, PhD is a Professor of Ophthalmology at National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), and a senior consultant vitreo-retinal surgeon at Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology (TIO), Kathmandu, Nepal. Currently, she is working as a head of vitreo-retina department and chief of research department at TIO. She has published over 60 articles in many peer reviewed journals..

She is working as a member of the diabetic retinopathy working group of International Agency for the Prevention of Blind (IAPB). She was consultant expert member of the ""Diabetic Retinopathy: A Call for Global Action A policy brief by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness and the International Diabetes Federation"".

She worked as a coordinator of development of National guideline for the management of diabetic retinopathy and development of advocacy strategy for integration of diabetic retinopathy in public health system in Nepal, endorsed by the Ministry of Health, Government of Nepal on 2017, supported by the Fred Hollows Foundation and World Diabetes Foundation.

She is working as a coordinator and focal person of diabetic retinopathy program at TIO. She is the principal investigator of Diabetic Retinopathy Registry in Nepal, started from July 2024. 

She has received many national and international research awards including Association of Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) Foundation Collaborative Research Fellowship Award, 2022, USA.
