Since 2015, IAPB has opened the World Sight Day Photo Competition each year to showcase how eye health, when accessible to all, has a tremendous impact on individuals, communities and economies.

Professional Photo of the Year: THE ARTIST - Santanu Bose

Veteran artist, Reba Pal paints chalachitra. She continues to paint to preserve the tradition of hand-painted art. Ensuring the art form carries on to future generations is a passion of hers.

Amateur Photo of the Year: The smile of happiness - Marisa Martins Armada

The story behind this photo is simple but very touching. We went to visit the market one day, but we had no cash to buy. We met Cidália, and promised her that we would come back to buy spices from her. She said "everyone says that but in the end no one comes back". One day, when we left work at the hospital where I was working as an Optometrist volunteer with Ocularis ONGD, we went back and bought her some spices. When she saw us, her face lit up and she hugged us. I asked her if I could take a picture of that moment, and she was delighted to accept. That is why she is so happy. I remember she told me from the bottom of her heart: "God bless you", and I was very touched.
