75-year-old cataract patient

Tanzanian miner Hussein, 75, had unsuccessfully sought treatment three times for his mature cataracts before arriving at a Cure Blindness Project outreach.
The week-long event, in partnership with Helen Keller International and the Tanzanian Ministry of Health, performed over 1000 sight-restoring surgeries to those living in and around Mbeya.
Hussein underwent surgery and today sees clearly.
“I want to share a message with others who might be suffering as I did,” he says. “Do not lose hope. If cataracts or any other affliction has taken your vision, seek treatment. Vision is the most important thing in life. It brings independence, confidence, and joy.”
Cure Blindness Project couldn’t agree more. The NGO works in more than 30 low- and middle-income countries across South Asia, sub-Saharan Africa and South America.
